Custom Icon

Follow

Did you know that you can brand the MobieTrain app with your own custom icon? Read carefully because some limitations apply.

What can be expected?

By defining a custom icon, your employees will be able to experience a more integrated environment with your brand. So, instead of seeing the MobieTrain icon, when using and adding the app to their home screen, they will be seeing the icon you define.

How does it work?

If you want to use a custom icon, inform your MobieTrain Customer Success Manager, and he’ll plan the update with our engineering team. After the icon is uploaded, your employees will see your branded app.

How to prepare a custom icon?

To prepare a custom icon for the app, is important to follow some general rules, to make sure you get the best possible result:

  • Use colours strategically to make your icon stand out on a busy home screen. However, avoid too many colours – two or three well-chosen colours are usually enough.
  • Avoid text. Text can be difficult to read on a small icon.
  • Consider your existing brand identity when designing the icon. Use colours, shapes, or styles that are consistent with your overall brand image.
  • The icon needs to look good at various sizes, from very small, in the browser tabs, to large on the home screen. Design it using vector graphics to ensure it scales cleanly.
  • Export your icons in PNG format, to make sure that any transparency in the shapes is preserved.
  • Your icon image should be square and have, at least, 512x512 pixels in size. Bigger sizes, like 1024x1024, are always fine.

What are the limitations?

The MobieTrain app is always used through the browser, this brings some limitations. There’s no way for us to control caching systems from the browsers or from the devices your users will work with, this is why you should be aware of these limitations, regarding the usage of custom icons, before proceeding.

Limitations can occur when for example, if a user already added the app to their home screen before the icon was changed or when the user has logged in previously.

Even if a user that had previously added the app to the home screen, or even accessed it, removes it and adds it again to his home screen, he might not see the updated icon.

Also, some (older) browser versions are not supporting a custom icon.

All these behaviours, have to do with browser, devices or even internet caches that are beyond our control. To make sure that we minimize the negative impact as much as we can, it is important that the custom icon is uploaded before your employees start using the app. This will make sure that we get the best branding experience possible.

At MobieTrain we always aim to offer the best possible experience for users, and we support the main OS and browsers (Windows, MacOS, Android, iOS, Chrome, Safari, Edge). Unfortunately, in this particular case, the results might not be consistent across systems, but we’re always improving, whenever possible, to bring you the best User Experience.

What do we need from the client?

We need a PNG format file, with the icon they wish to use in the app.

F.A.Q.

  • Does my icon influence the app name?
No. The app icon is just an image that represents the app. If you want to have a custom app name, talk to your MobieTrain Customer Success Manager, and he can advise you about doing this.
